723 Birch Final

723 Birch St is the address of my grandparent’s home. A building that has been in my family since the 1920s, passed down and sold from my great great grandfather to his daughter to her daughter, my grandmother. Aside from interchanging occupants, the house itself went through many changes. The backend was used as a fur vault, and then adapted for storage. The whole house was converted into a two family home and then switched back again. I’ve watched this home be altered as I myself have grown. As a child my fondest memories are of the kitchen table, the kitchen itself, and the living room. Although I’ve played in all parts of the home I don't have clear memories of the house as a whole. Not much has changed physically, the same old carpet and wall colors, no new furniture, aside from a television and armchair. Although with no change in this building I am fully aware of the aging of this home. I now see the cracks, slants, slopes- the out datedness. With this I have chosen to photograph the interesting rooms and parts of the home that showcase the decay.

Numbers Final

When viewing numbers in consecutive order with no punctuation, I find myself adding them up, forcing them into a sum equalling 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 11. I do not remember the beginning of this small OCD habit. I feel as though it began with the deliverance of the news that my mother was diagnosed with cancer, and after her heartbreaking death I believe it became more consistent everyday. While “producing a sum” I instantly try to figure out where in my life that number can relate. I have my favorite numbers, lucky ones, which make me feel as though I am on the right path. Maybe it’s a small hint from someone in the universe? Telling me that I am exactly where I am meant to be. I also have numbers, which I do not like, but I find I can correlate them into some number of family members or moments in time in which I find comfort. With this experience I began this series, photographing interesting numbers that I encounter and find beautiful.
